In this blog, Mark Lazarowicz looks at the commitments made in the recent SNP and Scottish Green Party co-operation agreement, and assesses how radical an impact the deal could have on the natural environment in Scotland.

The headline commitment is to a “Natural Environment Bill”, a wide-ranging commitment to restore and protect nature in Scotland.  There is also a a free-standing commitment to expand the newly established “Nature Restoration Fund” and a promised review of environmental justice, including the case for an environmental court, taking place during the “current parliamentary session”.  

Beyond these overarching policies, there are also commitments to specific measures in a number of areas including:-

 - National Parks
 - Agriculture
 - Regional Land Use Partnerships
 - Forestry and Woodlands
 - Land Reform
 - Aquaculture
 - Marine Protection
