Terra Firma Members Attain Arbitration Qualifications

William Frain-Bell of Terra Firma Chambers has successfully attained CEDR Accreditation as a Mediator. CEDR or the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution is a globally recognised gold standard qualification for mediators. He joins David Parratt in the chambers holding this elite qualification.

David Parratt and Bill Frain-Bell have both recently achieved the highest award possible from the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in London by gaining the pre-eminent “Chartered Arbitrator” status. This qualification is a mark of their knowledge and experience in the conduct of arbitrations. As Chartered Arbitrators they can be appointed to any arbitrations administered by the Chartered Institute. Both are also practising barristers in London and have arbitral experience in the Gulf and Middle East. Having been examined and tested in arbitration law and practice they are available for appointments to any arbitration in any jurisdiction. Emma Potter, Terra Firma’s Practice Manager, comments “This is significant for Terra Firma Chambers having David and Bill as Chartered Arbitrators. With the passing of the new Arbitration (Scotland) Act 2010 and the setting up of TFArb, this chambers offers an excellent service to parties and tribunals wanting arbitration advice or arbitral representation or now - with David and Bill’s higher qualification - arbitral tribunal appointments.”

David Parratt has been appointed a Visiting Senior Lecturer in Construction Law and International Arbitration in the British University in Dubai. He has delivered lectures in construction law to the MSc class in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution and will be lecturing again in Dubai next month. The course is a joint venture between the Centre of Construction Law & Dispute Resolution at Kings College London (KCL) and BUiD. He continues as an Honorary Lecturer in International Arbitration on the LLM course in International Dispute Resolution in the University of Dundee and an Honorary Lecturer in Dispute Resolution on the LLM course in Oil & Gas at the Centre for Energy, Petroleum, Minerals Law & Policy (CEPMLP) also in the University of Dundee.
