The Compulsory Purchase Association (CPA) is presenting its inaugural Scottish National Conference on Wednesday 24th October 2012 at The Royal Society of Edinburgh.

At this event Terra Firma Chambers’ Roy Martin QC will present a paper entitled Planning Assumptions Reform, the case for Scotland and fellow Terra Firma member and Honorary Vice-President of The Scottish Arbitration Centre, Lord Dervaird QC (Professor John Murray) will co-host a discussion on Access to Justice.

The CPA is a multi-professional organisation representing the interests of those who practice in the specialised field of compulsory purchase and compensation. The Association is concerned with raising technical standards, promoting best practice and encouraging the reform of complex law and practice.

The Scottish Government has recently updated the circular in connection with CPOs and the Scottish Law Commission has begun a review of the law and practice. The CPA now has a dedicated Scottish National Committee, with an extensive reform agenda and this first Scottish National Conference provides an opportunity to focus attention on the future, consider problems in existing practice and gives an opportunity for all those involved and affected by compulsory purchase to engage.
