Edinburgh Tax Network Seminars Scottish Taxes and Scottish Tax Management Consultation

The Edinburgh Tax Network sponsored by Terra Firma Chambers and Lusona will be presenting two seminars on the Scottish Tax Management Consultation and Scottish Domestic Tax on Wednesday 13th February and Thursday 21st February.

At these seminars Alistair Brown, Deputy Director for Fiscal Responsibility and Eleanor Emberson, Head of Revenue Scotland will provide an overview of the new Scottish Taxes (Scottish rate of income tax; Land and Buildings Transaction Tax; Landfill Tax) the form and functions of Revenue Scotland and the proposals set out in the Scottish Government’s Tax Management Consultation in the context of their constitutional and policy implications.

The first seminar Scottish Government’s Tax Management Consultation will be held in the Reading Room, Advocates Library, Parliament House on Wednesday 13th February at 5pm.  This event provides an opportunity for Tax Professionals not only to learn about the Tax Management proposals but also to offer constructive criticism of the current (UK) system and say to what extent it should be replicated and how it could be adapted. A must for anybody who thinks that the New Penalty Regime, Discovery procedure could be improved upon in a Scottish context. Should Scotland seek simply to resolve disputes through the Tax Chamber or is  something different called for – and if so, what?

The second seminar Devolving Tax Responsibilities to Scotland will be held in the Mackenzie Building, Old Assembly Close at 1pm on Thursday 21st February.  This event offers the chance to hear from those who are at the heart of crafting and implementing Scots domestic taxes, including SDLT replacement Land and Building Transaction Tax and Landfill Tax and the Scottish rate.

Edinburgh Tax Network is privileged to have been actively involved in the consultation process and these events are a must for all dedicated tax practitioners. Both seminars have been accredited by the Faculty of Advocates as contributing one hour CPD for its own members and are eligible for a similar award from the Law Society for the solicitor branch of the profession.  There is no charge for attendance but prior booking is necessary.
