Steven Walker of Terra Firma Chambers will co-direct a major 5-day conference on International Arbitration entitled Oil, Gas & Minerals: International Arbitration and Advocacy Skills from 2nd to 6th September 2013.  This conference will be presented by the University of Dundee’s Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP) and hosted by Hogan Lovells in London.

This 5-day conference on International Arbitration in the oil, gas and minerals industry will provide perspectives from legal experts, trial and in-house counsel, international arbitrators, and academics.  Featuring presentations by some of the leading practitioners in the industry and a number of practical training sessions on written and oral advocacy skills in the conduct of international arbitrations, the conference will culminate with a mock arbitration, prepared and conducted by delegates.

Of particular interest to delegates will be a full day devoted to Investor-State (or Investment) Arbitration, including presentations on The investor-state arbitral framework; Jurisdictional requirements and the requirement of consent – BITs, MITs, arbitration agreements, investment laws; Procedural issues, the role of arbitrators; Substantive protections and guarantees available to investors and state responsibility – fair and equitable treatment; Failure to protect, expropriation, state-owned enterprises; and Award enforcement.
