Terra Firma Chambers Recognised for its Strength In Depth by Legal 500

Terra Firma Chambers members have received 32 individual recommendations in the latest edition of Legal 500.  Members received 24 rankings across 7 categories at the Scottish Bar with a further 8 rankings across 6 categories for work at the London Bar.  The stable was described as a ‘go-to set’, noted for its ‘strength in depth’ and has been shortlisted for the 2014 Bar awards as one of the leading regional and Scottish Chambers.

Recognised as a first-tier stable, “Terra Firma Chambers ‘fields leading planning counsel', as well as experts in commercial litigation, arbitration, local government and agricultural law.”  The stable was also recommended for its clerking service: “Emma Potter provides ‘valued recommendations' and leads the ‘excellent' clerking team, which is ‘always helpful and efficient'.”

 

“‘A go-to set for planning law', Terra Firma Chambers fields ‘a range of strong counsel', which recently acted in several high-profile cases including Trump v Scottish Ministers and Ross Estates Limited v Scottish Ministers. The stable is also home to highly recommend licensing experts.”  Within Planning, environmental and licensing, the stable received recommendations for Roy Martin QC, Gordon Steele QC, Douglas Armstrong QC, James Findlay QC, Alasdair Burnet, Graham Dunlop, Scott Blair and Robert Skinner.

 

Roy Martin QC, James Findlay QC and Alasdair Burnet also received rankings under Civil liberties, human rights, public inquiries, and public and administrative law (including local government) where the stable is again described as ‘the go-to set for planning and local government matters'.

Within Commercial Litigation “Terra Firma Chambers has ‘strength-in-depth' and is recommended for the range of expertise provided by counsel, who are ‘flexible and always available', and are particularly strong in commercial arbitration. Alan Summers QC recently joined from Murray Stable.”  The stable also received recommendations for Roddy McIlvride QC, David Bartos and David Logan.


Alan Summers QC was also ranked within Company and Insolvency while Peter Grant-Hutchison was again ranked within Employment.

 

Within Property, construction and agriculture, J. Gordon Reid QC, David Bartos, Iain Maclean and Robert Sutherland were recognised again for their expertise with the stable noted for its  ‘excellent strength in depth in relation to agricultural law'.

 

‘Terra Firma Chambers’ members handle a broad range of tax matters’ with Philip Simpson QC, David Bartos and Derek Francis all recognised as leading practitioners within Tax, trusts and pensions.

 

James Findlay QC has again been ranked for his work at the English Bar with James receiving rankings under four separate categories, namely Administrative and Public law, Environment, Licensing and Planning.  Roy Martin QC is again ranked within Planning; John McKendrick is recommended within Administrative and Public law and Civil liberties and Human Rights and Steven Walker is once more recognised for his expertise in International Arbitration.
