Programme Finalised for SPEL Conference

The 25th annual Scottish Planning and Environmental Law (SPEL) Conference sponsored by Terra Firma Chambers will be held on Thursday 29 September 2015 at the COSLA Conference Centre, Verity House, 19 Haymarket Yards, Edinburgh.

This year’s event, entitled “Scottish Planning Reform – New Opportunities or More of the Same”, takes place against the background of continuing change and proposed reforms to the planning system as it is pressed to deliver more quickly and with frequently less resources. As we await a White Paper from the Scottish Government in response to the Independent Planning Review report, the key challenges facing the economy and communities remain unchanged. There is still much to consider and debate, both within the framework of existing legislation, policy and guidance and in the context of an anticipated programme of reform.

Widely regarded as the leading annual planning and environmental law event in Scotland, the SPEL Conference features key speakers and senior figures in local government and private practice. The Conference takes a more critical look at the operation of the planning system and the speakers, audience and topics make for stimulating discussion and debate.

This year's programme includes:-

- This year's programme includes:

- Delivering more housing - future directions

- The shift to a low carbon economy - where we are

The conference will be chaired by Terra Firma's James Findlay QC with fellow Terra Firma members Stephen O’Rourke and Denis Garrity providing Planning Law Case Roundups.
