Terra Firma Chambers are pleased to announce that Alan Summers QC has been appointed as a Senator of the College of Justice by Her Majesty the Queen.  Mr Summers was nominated for appointment on the recommendation of the First Minister following a report by the independent Judicial Appointments Board.  The appointment will take effect on a date to be agreed by the Lord President.

 

Mr. Summers has enjoyed a distinguished career at the bar since calling in 1994, taking silk in 2008.  He has been an Ad Hoc Advocate Depute since 2013 and Treasurer of the Faculty of Advocates since 2012.  He was Chairman of Faculty Services Ltd between 2008 and 2012.  Between 2000 and 2007 he was standing junior counsel to the Scottish Executive acting principally for the Health Department and the Keeper of the Registers of Scotland.  He has acted as Special Counsel to the UK Government since 2007.
