Gordon called to the Bar in 1980 and took Silk in 1993. He enjoyed a very successful commercial practice. In 2002 he was appointed a Temporary Judge of the Court of Session and High Court of Justiciary and in 2009 a Deputy Judge of the Upper Tribunal. He served at the Chairman of Terra Firma Chambers from 2012 to 2016 and as Chairman of the Faculty of Advocates Dispute Resolution Service (FDRS). His contribution to Terra Firma and with the dispute resolution service was immense and hugely appreciated by all those involved.
Gordon was one of the most impressive Advocates of his generation, a leading light at the Scottish Bar, right to the end of his practice. He was hugely respected for his commanding advocacy and great intellect, and his quiet but effective manner. Above all though, he was a wonderful man, a true gentleman. He exemplified all that was good about the Bar, holding a strong belief in its collegiate spirit and a responsibility to training and supporting junior advocates as they started their careers. He will be greatly missed.
