It is with great sadness that Terra Firma Chambers announce the passing of its founding Chairman Robert (Roy) Martin QC.  Roy was a former Dean of the Faculty of Advocates and one of the few Counsel to attain the distinction of Queen’s Counsel in both Scotland and England & Wales. He was 69.

Educated at Paisley Grammar School and Glasgow University, Roy was a solicitor for three years before being admitted to the Faculty in 1976, taking silk in 1988.  He called to the English Bar in 1990, becoming a ‘double Silk’ in 2008. He was also a member of the Bar of Northern Ireland and the Bar of New South Wales.

He was elected Vice-Dean in 2001 and held the post until 2004 when he succeeded Colin Campbell, QC, (Lord Malcolm), serving as Dean until 2007.

Vice Chairman of terra Firma Chambers, James Findlay QC said:  ‘The whole of Terra Firma is deeply shocked and saddened.  As one of our founding “fathers” and first chair, Roy will be greatly missed.  Our sincerest condolences and thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.’
