The Trusts (Scotland) Bill (SLC 239) - The Blueprint for a State-of-the-Art System in Scotland

The Edinburgh Tax Network, in conjunction with Trustbar, will present a seminar to celebrate the Trusts (Scotland) Bill (SLC 239) – the first major reform of Scottish Trust law to have been proposed in 100 years. The event will be held on Wednesday 16th June from 5.30pm to 7.45pm at the Mackenzie Building, Edinburgh.

The event, which is sponsored by Turcan Connell and Standard Life Aberdeen, will feature addresses from an illustrious panel of experts:-

The Rt. Hon. Lady Paton, Inner House Judge of the Court of Session and Chairman of the Scottish Law Commission (SLC), will discuss the SLC and its work;

The Rt. Hon. Lord Drummond Young, retired Inner House Judge of the Court of Session, former Chairman of the SLC and chief architect of the Bill will consider the practical importance and scope of the trust;

The Hon. Lord Tyre, Commercial Judge of the Court of Session; former Scottish Law Commissioner and past President of the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) who will explore the Family Trust in 2021;

Kate Forbes, MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Finance, will discuss the Scottish Government's view;

Shona Lowe, Managing Director, Private Client & Corporate at 1825 - Standard Life Aberdeen's financial planning and advice business - will outline a new era of possibilities afforded by the legislation.

The seminar has been accredited by the Faculty of Advocates as contributing 2 hours CPD for its own members and is eligible for a similar award from the Law Society for the solicitor branch of the profession.

There is a charge of £25 per person and attendance can be either in-person or online.

However, capacity is limited due to social distancing requirements.  Other than by invitation, spaces will be issued on a first come, first served basis by emailing: seminars@terrafirmachambers.com.

The seminar will be live streamed and made available for viewing after the event.  If you cannot attend in person, you can register for online viewing at: https://cvent.me/7yg2m4.

This event will be hosted with the support of Terra Firma Chambers.  For further information, please visit our Seminars section.

UPDATE: Please note that due to technical considerations, this event will now be held at the Mackenzie Building and not Parliament Hall as originally advertised..
