Terra Firma Chambers’ Robert Sutherland is heading back to the Arctic Circle as part of a team raising money for charity.  Robert is making this trip to raise money for Aberlour, a Scottish charity which supports children and young people suffering from poverty, disadvantage and discrimination.

Robert’s latest adventure will see him undertake a trek through the Arctic Circle pulling a sledge over a frozen river and lake, and through the slopes of extensive pine forests, with equipment needed to withstand temperatures of -200C.  As northern Europe and the Arctic are amongst the places where climate change is having the biggest impact on temperature and a fragile habitat, Robert will mitigate the environmental impact of his trip to this precarious environment, travelling by train and ferry and thereby saving approximately 480kg of CO2 emissions compared to flying.  He will depart Edinburgh on 1st February, journeying via Newcastle, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Stockholm, Turku (a port near Helsinki) and Helsinki before arriving in Rovaneimi, Finland on 5th February.  

Robert said: “I am fortunate never to have suffered poverty, disadvantage or discrimination.  I am hoping that people who hear about this will support the fundraising effort for a children's charity which does so much good work to help those in need and provide them with a chance to grow up safer, healthier and happier.”
