Terra Firma Chambers in conjunction with SOLAR successfully hosted a Common Good
Conference at The Mackenzie Building, Edinburgh on Monday 29th September 2025. The
event was very well attended and received excellent feedback from attendees and
participants.
The event was chaired by Terra Firma’s Stable Director, Alasdair Burnet KC, and featured
talks by fellow TFC members Mark Lazarowicz, Francesca Glendinning and Scott Blair.
Mark and Francesca presented a guide to the basics of common good law while Scott
delivered a case law update and considered the practical implications.
In addition, Andrew Ferguson, Principal of Andrew Ferguson Consults, author of the
definitive text on common good law, considered questions arising from common good in
practice while Rob McIntosh of Aberdeenshire Council examined the operation of
common good and the practical experience of community consultation from a local
government perspective. The conference concluded with a panel discussion and Q&A
session.
The conference was recorded and is available to view in two parts on Terra Firma’s
dedicated YouTube channel. Copies of the speaker’s notes/slides are available on
request by emailing clerks@terrafirmachambers.com.
