On Monday 7 June 2010, the Arbitration (Scotland) Act 2010 will come into force. In a stroke it will revolutionise the arbitration law of Scotland and give Scotland one of the most modern arbitration regimes in the world. Hundreds of years of vague and inaccessible law will come to an end.
To coincide with the commencement of the Act, Terra Firma Chambers is the first Chambers or stable to launch a specialist Arbitration Group. The Group will be known as TFArbitration and the intention is to create a first class centre of expertise on arbitration law so that it can become the first port of call for other lawyers or direct access clients wishing to obtain advice on any aspect of Scots arbitration law or to obtain the services of an arbitrator. Parties, both in Scotland and abroad, will have the choice of resolving their differences by arbitration, a dispute resolution process which is normally quicker and more cost effective than litigation.
TFArbitration is very well placed to welcome the new Act by offering parties to a dispute the advantages of:
- More specialist arbitration Advocates than any other Chambers or Stable at the Scottish Bar. A number of our Advocates have been accredited by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in London.
- Many of our Advocates have hands-on practical experience of a wide variety of ad hoc and institutional domestic and international commercial arbitrations.
- Some of our Advocates are also experienced in investment arbitration.
- More arbitration academics than any other Chambers or Stable at the Scottish Bar.
- More English law dual qualified Barrister members than any other Chambers or Stable.
- Quality arbitrators.
As Douglas Armstrong QC, Vice-Chairman of Terra Firma Chambers, said:-
“Scotland benefits from having a high quality legal system complimented by high quality lawyers at a cost effective price, which result in Scotland being one of the world's best forums of choice in which to arbitrate. TFArbitration concentrates all of our arbitration expertise within one specialised group for the benefit of consumers of arbitration services.”
