Terra Firma Chambers is to host a topical discussion on Scotland’s constitutional future and the legal implications of a referendum on independence.

The UK Government has recently launched a consultation document seeking the views of the people of Scotland on how to facilitate a legal, fair and decisive referendum.  At this event, the Advocate General for Scotland (and non-practicing member of Terra Firma Chambers) the Right Honourable Lord Wallace of Tankerness QC will outline the UK Government’s conclusions on the competence of the Scottish Parliament to legislate for a referendum on independence.  Chairman of Terra Firma Chambers, Roy Martin QC, will chair a panel of pre-eminent members of the legal profession who will examine the issues outlined in Lord Wallace’s talk with attendees invited to share their views, pose questions and participate in the discussion.

The event will be held on Friday 17th February 2012 at the Mackenzie Building, Old Assembly Close, High Street, Edinburgh (4pm for registration, tea and coffee for a 4.30pm start) and will be followed by a champagne reception at 6pm. There is no charge for attendance at this event which has been accredited by the Faculty of Advocates as contributing one and a half hours CPD for its own members and is eligible for a similar award from the Law Society for the solicitor branch of the profession.
