Law Schools Benefit from Terra Firma's Conference Programme

Terra Firma Chambers have underlined their commitment to the future of the Scottish Legal profession by reserving a number of places at each of their major conference events for staff and students at Scotland’s leading Law Schools.

Terra Firma Chambers operate an extensive seminar and conference programme throughout the year, sharing the expertise of our Counsel with solicitors and legal professionals across the length and breadth of the country.  For the first time at our recent Local Authority Conference in Glasgow a number of places were also reserved for staff and students of the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice programme at the University of Glasgow.

The University of Glasgow’s School of Law ran a competition to determine which students would attend the event and this generated a great deal of interest.  The success of the event and subsequent feedback provided by staff and students alike was also very positive.

Eileen Paterson, Depute Director of Professional Legal Practice at Glasgow School of Law said: ‘We are very grateful to Terra Firma Chambers for allowing us to attend the Local Authority Conference.  The experience was invaluable to our Diploma students, some of whom will hopefully soon be instructing Counsel themselves.  It was an excellent opportunity not only to learn but also to observe the professionalism of those involved.  I am delighted to hear that Terra Firma is to make similar provisions for law students to attend further events and look forward to our students taking advantage of this opportunity again in future.’

Due to the success of the pilot, Terra Firma has pledged to offer the same opportunity to higher learning institutions in the locale of all future conference events.  Edinburgh University School of Law Students on the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice course will be the next to benefit with a number of places reserved free of charge at the forthcoming Commercial Law Conference to be held on Monday 14th November 2011, at the Mackenzie Building, Old Assembly Close, High Street, Edinburgh.

The conference will be chaired by Roy Martin QC and will feature a series of talks on a variety of topics including legal updates on developments in Commercial Law; Exclusion Clauses and the Unfair Contract Terms Act; Supply of Goods and issues relating to Commercial Leases and Contracts.  In addition, there will be two talks covering different areas of Alternative Dispute Resolution.

The Conference will provide attendees not only with the opportunity to hear a variety of interesting and informative talks from some of the leading practitioners at the Scottish Bar but also the opportunity to meet and question them at the Champagne reception afterwards.

There are still a limited number of spaces available for this conference; further information including booking details can be found in the seminar section of our website.
